Thank you for introducing this poem, Julie. I love it so much! I also want to be a place that’s open all night, that holds within me what others need. Hmmmmm… gonna be thinking on this for awhile.
Re sounds, just yesterday I impulsively changed the description of my newsletter to “Personal stories about fear, flailing, and figuring it out…” because I liked the sound and rhythm of it.
That’s the inviting and curious thing about poetry, right? I’m hearing different things: mostly wanting to be an all-night, nothing but necessities and novelties kind of usefulness, rather than a fancy soap and strange spice place or person. The turn about a memory of his father I’m not sure about. But like I tell my workshops: we write from memory or imagination, and perhaps he is offering an opening for us to imagine or remember something there. Try asking the question as you write, and see what happens….

Great tag line, Jen.
Love the focus on sound. Curious what meaning you took from the poem- I’ve listened a few times and am still not sure what he is trying to say.

Enjoy ARW! I have a sabbatical coming up this summer and I’m going to start with some of your prompts. Thanks, Julie!
Sabbatical joy to you, Bob! Glad you are here.
