Welcome to Writing in Company. Each week I share some words and a writing prompt, meant to be jumping-off points for you to write about what matters. Use the prompts however you likeāto journal, to draft thoughts for your own writing project, as meditation or prayer ideas, or for another creative endeavor. You can always look back through the archive for more ideas. Grab your pen and paper, and let your words loose on the page.
Sometimes I wish that God and/or The Universe had better signage. Like:
Do This. Not That.
Stop and Think About It!
Slow Down. Seriously.
What Would Your Future Self Do?
You are Loved and They Are Too, So Donāt Be an Idiot
The most helpful would be something along the lines of: Go This Way!
A recent hike produced a clear sign in just the right spot on the trail. My husband made me go back and snap a photo, knowing it would make a good writing prompt. He was right. So here it isāyour sign for the day. Where will it lead youāor notāon the page?

Love this prompt. Reminds me of the book Enderās Game, where youth live and train on a space ship. When it is time to go anywhere - dinner, training, a meeting with their leaders - a trail of light-up dots on the floor would lead the way to your destination. Each team had a dot trail color.
I remember thinking, Sure wish I had a trail of dots lighting my way to the next thing!
I'm enjoying the debate in my head: is it a cautionary sign-"good luck, you're on your own, no one will come to your aid"? Or is it an encouraging sign-"oh brave heart, courageous and true, you will bushwhack yourself to a wondrous place and the world will be astounded"? Is it Dorothy's warning, or is it Frost's invitation? Thank you, Julie. I'm having fun with this one.
